terrible nightmares in which mass murders took place

A few weeks ago we wrote about how the Hollywood actor Mel Gibson had described his feelings of violence and anger as he tried to deal with his smoking craving. He spoke jokingly about how he had wanted to swing an axe and other violent thoughts. Well this week it’s the teenage heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio who has been talking about his battle with quitting smoking and how he too got crazy ideas.

Leonardo DiCaprio Quitting Attempt Leads To Mass Murder Dreams

Leonardo DiCaprio claims that when he started to quit smoking using nicotine patches he started to get terrible nightmares in which mass murders took place. He said that the terrifying dreams prevented him from sleeping properly and he ended up tearing off the nicotine patches in the middle of the night. Leonardo DiCaprio who is working on a new movie Shutter Island was likely to have been influenced in his dreams by its traumatic nature in which he plays a part of a policeman investigating disappearances from a mental hospital.

Many people experience crazy dreams when they begin to quit smoking and this is perfectly normal. In fact it is a sign that you are learning to deal with the psychological aspect of quitting.  You should try and get good sleep when you are in the process of quitting smoking because it will fortify your resolve to stay smoke free throughout the day. You should also try and avoid any stressful situations such as conflicts and arguments because they could act as a trigger to make you want to smoke again.

One dream which many ex smokers get is the one where they light up a cigarette knowing full well that they shouldn’t really be doing so. They go through the whole feeling of guilt and anger about having smoked again but the great thing about this happening is the sense of relief that accompanies waking up and realising that it was all ‘just a dream!’
