Thinking of quitting smoking in the New Year? Well now is the time to start thinking about it and to start making a plan. People who plan their smoking cessation attempts are statistically more likely to be successful with them than those who don't, so to increase your chances and to make it easier to quit have a look at the following tips.

if you are quitting in the new year read this

Get help from your friends and family. Support from people around you is critical for smoking cessation success. Explain to them how difficult it is for you to quit and that their help will be needed. Sometimes just a pat on the back and a little bit of encouragement makes the difference between you reaching for those cigarettes and deciding to go smoke free for another day.

Examine your smoking triggers! Maybe you smoke when you are stressed, with a coffee, after a big meal or with a drink but whatever it is be aware of these triggers and try to avoid them for the first few days. Have a plan to deal with smoking cravings when they turn up. Maybe a walk around the block will do the trick or a stick of chewing gum could help?
In fact exercise is probably the best way of reducing smoking cravings in the long and short term. You don't have to sign up with a gym but just a walk around the park, to the local shopping centre or just to the local shop should be enough to make you forget about smoking and get your circulation going.

I wish to say this to encourage others, I used to smoke about 30 a day for many years, I do not smoke now, it was difficult but I feel so much better for having given the up, so don't give up trying but give THEM up!!
