Female Lung Cancer Rates Have Increased, Smoking Is The Cause

a lot of the anti-smoking campaigns have been targeted more at men

Despite millions being spent on anti-smoking campaigns, the number of women diagnosed with lung cancer has risen in England. According to the report which was released by the South West Public Health Observatory the number of women with lung cancer in England increased by 10% between the years 1987 and 2006.

female lung cancer rates have increased, smoking is the cause

The good news however is that the statistics for men showed a decline in lung cancer rates from from 70.4 per 100,000 men in 2000 to 59.4 per 100,000 by 2007 which is in fact a greater decline than the increase in the number of women getting lung cancer. The research which forms part of the British Thoracic Society (BTS) conference should be made as public as possible to encourage women to quit smoking. Many women argue that the reason they smoke is to stop themselves putting on weight.

The report authors felt that more effort needed to be made to get women to quit smoking and that a lot of the anti-smoking campaigns have been targeted more at men. At Ukmedix News we have noted how pointing out the connection between smoking and erectile dysfunction is a major factor in encouraging men to quit smoking. This works because men place such a big emphasis on good erectile function and are more likely to quit because of this than if you tell them they could get lung cancer or a heart attack.

In the same way we believe women should be targeted by looking at what they consider to be important and relevant. Probably the best way to encourage women to quit smoking would be too point out that smoking wrinkles their skin prematurely, makes them less fertile and brings on menopause early.

Try and imagine how you would feel if you couldn't have a child just because of a stupid habit which you could have given up with a little bit of effort. If you need some help quitting smoking you can always get a doctor's consultation online at Ukmedix and the doctor may be able to prescribe you the smoking cessation medication Champix.
