There’s nothing like having a close family member die of lung cancer to work as an incentive to help you quit smoking! This has recently been highlighted by the Bourne family of Derbyshire who were all shocked to see their beloved mother pass away from this terrible illness. The family is also using the financial incentive of quitting smoking as an added motivation to help them all quit. Between the seven of them they estimated that they were smoking around 7,000 cigarettes monthly which was costing them as much as £24,000 annually.

The family is putting their cigarette money into a fund named after their mother Jean and have already saved up £1,700 in two weeks which will be used to purchase a headstone for her grave. Jean’s husband said that quitting smoking wasn’t that difficult because of the experience that he had been through and that when he goes to see her grave it makes him more determined. While all the family have promised to quit not all of them have been able to completely kick the habit and are still struggling with the process of giving up.
A word of advice from Ukmedix News to this family would be that they must seize the initiative to quit smoking when the memory of their mother is still extremely fresh. The longer they leave their final cigarette for the more difficult it will be for them to quit completely.
If they still find it very difficult to quit they should seek professional help and even have a doctor’s consultation if necessary to get smoking cessation medications which have been clinically proven to increase the chances of quitting. The fact that the whole family is aware of the huge financial benefits of quitting should help them too.
