There is nothing like a little bit of religious devotion to give yourself a little bit of a hand in achieving your goals. Research done in Malaysia shows that the vast majority of Muslim smokers say that it is much easier to give up smoking during Ramadan when they are required not to smoke between sun up and sundown compared to the rest of the year.

In fact a huge 95 percent of the Muslim smokers who are required not to smoke during the fourteen hours of daylight said that it was much easier to stay smoke free at this time.
The Malaysian Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman announced the results of the survey as part of a health campaign to get Malaysian people to quit smoking not only during Ramadan but forever. The health campaign which has the catch phrases - Ramadan the starting point towards quitting smoking - and also - Ramadan is an excellent time for smokers to quit the smoking habit - could be a big success if smokers make that extra effort.
The health campaign is largely motivated by a concern that smoking related illnesses are on the increase in Malaysia with many more cases of lung cancer and heart and lung disease being reported.
If you are able to quit smoking for fourteen hours of daylight there is no reason why you really need to smoke when the sun comes down. At Ukmedix News we would advise people trying to quit smoking during Ramadan to eat healthily when the sun comes down so that they do not put on too much weight. A bit of exercise is also known to greatly reduce cigarette smoking cravings.
If you are concerned about your smoking habit and having difficulty in quitting you can have an online consultation at the Ukmedix web site where it may be possible to obtain a prescription for the smoking cessation medication Champix should it be the right drug for you.
