All over Europe and America governments are making a big effort to encourage their citizens to quit smoking. The reason for this is that politicians have finally cottoned on to the fact that smoking costs the state millions of pounds every single year in health bills and also in lost productivity. They have begun to realise that money spent on health campaigns to encourage people to quit smoking actually would end up paying dividends in the long term.

In the province of Ontario in Canada the government has taken smoking cessation one step further with a competition and challenge to Canadian citizens who quit smoking. They have said that anybody who quits smoking can enter into a competition to win a brand new Toyota Prius! What you have to do is register that you are attempting to quit smoking and also register a buddy to help you meet the challenge. Those men and women who successfully quit will have their names put into a lottery and the first name drawn will win the car. There are also seven $3,000.00 prizes to be won for the runners up.
Companies are also realising that by getting their employees to quit smoking they can save money on company health insurances and also boost the productivity of their employees. By boosting the productivity of the people who work in a company can lead to the company making bigger profits. Investing in the health of your employees will eventually pay dividends and managing directors should take notice of this.
The cost savings of quitting smoking are not just about saving money on not buying cigarettes but come in many different forms. Ultimately you should always remember that smoking could end up costing you your most valuable asset…… Your life! It’s never too early to quit, bite the bullet, regain control of your health and quit the stupid habit!
