I Did It My Way

We have previously discussed about how different people quit smoking in different ways and that everybody has their own unique tale to tell about how they conquered their smoking addiction. It makes you think of the Frank Sinatra song “I Did It My Way” and everybody likes to relate the story of their own personal challenge that they faced when quitting smoking.

Do It Your Way

Reading about how people quit and how they managed to overcome the addictive pull of cigarettes can be very useful for smokers as it gives them ideas on how to formulate their own plan to quit smoking. Recently we heard of a very heavily addicted smoker who had been trying to quit for years and it was only when he turned to God and prayed for help did he say he was finally able to beat the temptation to light up again. He says that whenever he has a weak moment he goes and prays for strength which keeps him going.

Another case we came across involved a woman who decided that she wouldn’t actually quit smoking but she promised herself that she would not inhale any smoke. She would light up and take a puff but not actually breathe into her lungs. After a while she said she just began to forget about smoking completely and soon drifted into being a non smoker. Some smokers say the thing they miss the most is the ritual of smoking and maybe quitting like this could help them.

One thing which we have seen to work time and time again is setting a date in advance, (at least two weeks) as the date when you are going to quit smoking. You must prepare for quitting smoking carefully, make sure that the first few days are calm and not stressful because you will be under a certain amount of stress anyway. Eat a healthy diet and try and get some exercise too as it will take your mind off the cravings for the cigarettes.
