The smoking ban in England is clearly working after official statistics released for last month showed that the sales of cigarettes are down by almost seven percent when compared to the figures for July, 2006. In anticipation of the ban people had already started to quit smoking because the official figures show that for June, 2007 the numbers of cigarettes bought were down by 1.2 percent when compared to June, 2006. When smoking bans were introduced in Ireland and also in Scotland the figures were more less the same with a reduction of cigarette sales of around between six and eight percent.

Many different factors come into play now that the smoking ban has been introduced. For example if the weather is very bad it makes it much harder for people to go outside to have a cigarette and thus smoking consumption is reduced. In the same way if the weather is very warm people tend to sit outside in restaurants and bars and thus the temptation to light up is far greater. The fact that the weather was bad in July in the United Kingdom would have actually helped reduce the amount of cigarettes smoked over the month as a whole. If you are thinking about quitting smoking you should remember that with a smoking ban in force all over the United Kingdom it will be much easier for you to succeed now.
At Ukmedix News we are conscious of the fact that giving up a smoking habit is not an easy thing to do and requires strength and willpower. If you have failed giving up smoking a number of times or if you are just nervous about trying to quit because you feel you are very addicted to your cigarettes you should possibly speak to a doctor about getting the new smoking cessation drug called Champix.
Champix is made by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer and in independent testing has returned extremely good success rates which were far higher than the success rates connected with nicotine based smoking cessation aids.
