The Real Rewards Of Quitting Smoking

Giving up the smoking habit is not the simplest thing in the world to do; in fact if you speak to hardened smokers who have quit they will often list giving up smoking as one of their most difficult challenges. On questioning them further you will sense that they decided to give up because they had just had enough of health complications, feeling bad or whatever reason it was that they decided to quit for. The point is that the decision to quit comes from inside you and once that decision is made sincerely and properly most people manage to quit.

Many people who fail to quit are those who do not have an all consuming desire to quit smoking. They are people who think that they really should quit because they have not been feeling too good recently but generally they are not considering their long term life plan and are just quitting for the moment.
The big rewards of quitting smoking are not immediate. Yes, you will feel better, you will probably smell better and you might be able to run up steps faster but the real rewards of smoking you will probably never appreciate and be aware of. These will be the rewards that will allow you to sit with your family when you are in old age and have a good time. These are the rewards that will mean that you will be able to live at home rather than being in a cancer ward with tubes coming out of your mouth. These are the rewards that will allow you to see your grandchildren and experience life to the fullest. These are the rewards that mean that you’ll be able to have sex as you get older.
Elderly people who are in good health often say that they are lucky to be like that but the probability is that they never smoked and drank too much, that they ate healthily for most of their lives and so that their health is mainly down to prudence rather than luck.
Speak to an old smoker suffering from lung cancer, a stroke or heart disease who is bedridden and finding it difficult to breathe and you will not even need to bother asking them what is the single thing that they regret the most….
