If you tried to quit smoking on New Year's Eve and you failed do not lose heart! Thousands of people all over the United Kingdom will have tried to quit on New Year's Eve and while a good many of them may have been successful many will have succumbed to a cigarette. Waking up on New Year's Day with a hangover and with the knowledge that you failed in your attempt to quit smoking may be very demoralizing but you must not give up giving up!

The mistake that many people make when they stop smoking is that they reckon that it is a short term thing. Quitting smoking and really getting rid of the urge to smoke may take you a long time. Some people say that even years after having quit smoking they still get the occasional urge to light up. If you managed to stay smoke free while partying and drinking alcohol on New Year's Eve don't get too cocky and confident because you still have on long way to go yet.
You must be positive and proactive about quitting smoking. You must constantly remind yourself why you are giving up the unhealthy habit and replace smoking with something else in your life such as playing more sports or putting the money aside that you save from cigarettes into a holiday or something you have been meaning to buy for some time. With the increasing cost of cigarettes in the United Kingdom an average smoker can save themselves a couple of thousand pounds a year and put it towards an exciting reward.
If you can quit smoking for a year and be smoke free at New Year's Eve next year imagine how good you will feel about yourself and how confident and in control you will be if you still have not lit up a cigarette. Thousands of people quit every single month in the UK and there is no reason why you cannot be one of them.
