Everyone knows that smoking is bad for your health and that it can cause heart and lung disease however not a lot of people know that smoking can actually prevent the development of healthy muscle. A new study seen by Ukmedix News shows that people who smoke a lot did not have as many muscle fibres which meant their muscles did not function as well as those people who did not smoke. They also saw that cigarette smoke prevents the chemicals that actually open blood vessels to work efficiently thus leading to lower levels of oxygen in the blood.

It is commonly thought that the reason why smokers are not so fit is because their lungs do not work as well as non smokers but this research shows that the smoking actually affects the amount of oxygen in the muscles as well as the amount of oxygen processed by the lungs. The researchers also saw that smokers had an imbalance of antioxidants in their muscles. Antioxidants are extremely important for the regeneration cell tissue in the body.
This should be of interest to people who work out in the gym and who are trying to build up muscle mass and to think that they can continue to smoke at the same time. The fact that smoking prevents the blood vessels from opening also plays a part in encouraging erectile dysfunction in men who smoke. You are twice as likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction if you smoke in your thirties and considerably more than that if you continue to smoke in your forties.
More and more research is piling up showing that the smoking habit can affect the human body in hundreds of different ways and this should act as a wake up call to anybody who smokes. The chances of you getting to old age without suffering from some smoking related disease are extremely slim and in any case your quality of life will not be as good as that of a non smoker.
Bite the bullet and get some help for your smoking problem now!
