Reading how some people gave up smoking and therefore tips and bits of advice that they can pass on can be very positive motivations for people quitting themselves. Talking to ex smokers about how their lives have changed and how positive they feel about themselves is also something to be recommended as a motivational booster for quitting smoking.

One thing that many ex smokers have is some sort of goal or target which runs concurrently along with the smoking cessation target. For example somebody may make the promise to himself that he will run a marathon and as smoking and running are completely incompatible obviously the smoking will have to go. You don’t have to set a target of running a marathon but you could say to yourself that you’d like to be able to run a mile in a certain time or set yourself a target on a rowing machine which you will be proud of.
You may also make a target of saving money and by quitting you can save around £6 everyday which equates to almost £2,200 every year. You could say for example that you want to go on amazing holiday at the end of this year and by quitting your smoking habit you’ll get that holiday for free! Surely you’d rather go on the holiday of our lifetime than smoke unhealthy cigarettes which could even end up costing you more money in health bills.
If you are someone who struggles to quit smoking and have failed on a number of attempts you need to really sit down and work out why you want to quit and have clear and focused objectives. You need to set a date a few weeks ahead for when you are going to quit and start to change and organise your life to meet that challenge.
Achieving your targets in a personal challenge can boost your confidence greatly and make you feel good about yourself. Don’t wait to get sick before you decide to quit smoking… or it may be too late!
