If you are concerned about your weight, smoking is never an option...

Ukmedix News has just come across some research done by Dublin City University that shows that twenty percent of all young smokers are either clinically overweight or obese. Almost 5,000 schoolchildren were looked at and it was seen that the boys who had more sedentary lifestyles were over 60 percent more probable to smoke than those who exercised and took part in sport on a regular basis. The researchers also noted that the school girls who did not exercise are 27 percent more probable to smoke cigarettes when compared to their peers who do not smoke.

Smoking Could Make You Fat

It makes sense that children who take exercise seriously do not smoke as they will feel the effects of the cigarettes in their lungs when they run and exert themselves. Serious athletes cannot be smokers as they will never be able to compete against their fellow athletes who do not smoke.

Many smokers say that they smoke to keep a control on their weight but this recent research proves that this really is not the case. If you are concerned about your weight and therefore your health, smoking is never an option. You should remind your smoking friends who say that they are smoking to keep in shape that in the long term they are more likely to put on pounds by continuing with their habit.

In Ireland the health authorities have put out a ban on the selling of packets of cigarettes that only contain ten cigarettes. Their reasoning is that school children often buy the smaller packets of cigarettes because they are cheaper and by only having the more expensive twenty cigarette packets on sale they may decide not to buy them at all.

Ukmedix has recently started to give people advice on quitting smoking and the Ukmedix forums are discussing the use of the new smoking cessation drug Champix which is made by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, famous for producing the world’s first erectile dysfunction medication Viagra.
