Reports are coming into the Ukmedix newsroom that the number of individuals who quit smoking just before the July 1st smoking ban was introduced are very encouraging. One particular report said that the number had risen by over three hundred percent in June 2007 when compared to the figure for June 2006.
All over the country people are finally giving up and taking the plunge to give up smoking and it is made so much easier because so many people are quitting smoking at the same time. There is big strength in numbers! Companies all over the United Kingdom are helping staff by giving them incentives and encouragement to quit the habit.

When the smoking ban was voted upon in the House of Commons it went through very easily and among other things the law now says that anyone who is caught smoking in a public place will be immediately issued with a £50 fine and any business that is perceived to be allowing people to light up in their property could get a charge of as much as £2,500 as well as being landed in court. Smoking could now be even more expensive than it already is.
Not only do individuals save money when they quit smoking but it is hoped that the state in the form of the National Health Service will also benefit too. Millions of pounds are spent every year helping people who suffer from smoking induced lung cancer as well as hundreds of other smoking related illnesses. The sale of smoking cessation drugs has also greatly increased according to pharmacists all around the country and this shows a determination by the people of the United Kingdom give up smoking once and for all.
At Ukmedix News we have seen very positive reports regarding the smoking cessation medication Champix which is made by the drug giant Pfizer (which is also famous for producing the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.)
