Many people decide to give up smoking at midnight on New Year’s Eve. Giving up smoking is without a doubt the most sensible New Year’s resolution that anybody could come up with and thousands of people over the UK give up smoking at this time.

Our advice is that if you are thinking of quitting at midnight on NYE you should start making preparations for it now. To try to cut down on the amount of cigarettes that you are smoking every day and make an effort to improve your diet by eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking lots of water. This will help to remove harmful toxins that have been building up in your body over the years. We would also recommend that you get some exercise every day as this has shown to help reduce the cravings that come along with quitting smoking.
For the first couple of weeks when you quit smoking make sure that you do not end up in situations where you are extremely likely to smoke. Some people for example find it extremely difficult not to smoke when they drink alcohol and so maybe for the first couple of weeks of not smoking you should stay away from the booze. Other people associate smoking with different things such as coffee or even with certain friends. Be conscious of what triggers your desire to smoke and keep away from these triggers for the first few weeks of quitting.
If you are a very heavy smoker and you are concerned that you may not be able to resist the temptation to light up on New Year’s Day you could consider getting a prescription from a doctor for the smoking cessation drug Champix which is made by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. Champix is a medication that you have to take for a couple of weeks before you decide to quit smoking and it greatly reduces the craving and desire to have a cigarette by acting on the brain.
