The Champix smoking cessation drug has been in the news a bit recently as there have been a number of reports saying that it can cause depression and even suicidal thoughts. In the United Kingdom the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority (MHRA) say they have received over 800 reports from users of Champix who experienced adverse reactions when using the drug.

Not all these adverse reactions were of a psychological nature but included things like nausea, dizziness, vomiting and abnormal dreams. The Food & Drug Administration in America is also reviewing the Champix drug which is sold under the name of Chantix over there and is collecting reports of adverse reactions from patients. Champix is made by the drug company Pfizer who also make the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.
Champix has been shown in independent tests to be over twice as effective as a placebo drug in helping people to quit smoking. Forty four percent of people who use Champix said that it helped them to quit.
A lot of people also report that when they used the Champix smoking cessation drug that they experience unprovoked anger but it could be that the anger they were feeling was due to the withdrawal symptoms of smoking which are extremely common. In fact all people giving up smoking should be aware that they may well feel extremely irritable and bad tempered for the first week of quitting and they should warn their colleagues and friends to go easy on them during this period.
If you use the smoking cessation drug Champix you should warn your friends and colleagues that you are taking the drug and that you are trying to quit smoking so that they can keep an eye on you and also provide you with moral support in your attempt to get healthy.

I am only on day three of taking Champix and am feeling bad tempered for no reason. They say it's because you're not smoking, but I am, because you don't stop until day 8, so it's not lack of nicotine making me feel like this.
