Following on from the launch of the smoking cessation medication Champix in Japan comes yet another launch for the drug in India. Pfizer India which is part of the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Incorporated just recently started to market the Champix drug in India where there are millions of smokers.

Champix will be available on prescription in seventeen cities all over India and Mr. Kewal Handa who is the managing director of Pfizer India said the Champix was the most “innovative and effective” smoking cessation medication to get a full approval from the United States Food & Drug Administration over the last decade. He went on to say that almost 6 million people have tried Champix since it was launched in the summer of 2006 and that he had very high hopes that Champix would help struggling smokers to quit in India like it had in other areas of the world.
India has a huge smoking problem which is growing all the time. Western drug companies have invested millions in promoting cigarettes in India as the western markets are beginning to dry up as people there realise the dangers of smoking. The Indian state is becoming increasingly concerned that smoking could cause so much illness that the already overburdened health system could collapse. It is hoped that Champix will help to lower the number of smokers in India.
The Champix smoking cessation drug is a prescription medication which you should start to take before you decide to quit smoking. Ideally you should take it for a couple of weeks before you actually smoke your last cigarette and it works by greatly reducing the cravings and the desire to smoke. Independent testing has shown that Champix is the most effective smoking cessation product on the market today. Champix is not a nicotine replacement medication but works on the brain to reduce the cravings for nicotine.
