People who smoke tend to look unhealthier than people who don’t! Research has shown that maybe it is not just because for smokers are actually unhealthy but it is possible that smoking could actually be turning your hair gray or white and actually speeding up the aging process.

An interesting research project done about ten years ago and which was printed in the British Medical Journal looked at and evaluated a group of just over 300 men and women who smoked. Out of the group they saw that fourteen men and 67 women had grey hair before they got to the age of 50. They compared this with a group of non-smokers of the same ages and saw that the incidence of grey hairs was 50 percent less.
The researchers said that they could not actually explain why smokers tended to have more grey hair than non smokers but they theorised that the act of smoking could speed up the aging process of the body. Other things like drinking and eating unhealthy have also known to produce people who have grey hair and who look older than they really are.
If you want to make sure that you look your age (or younger) you need to quit smoking as soon as possible. Once your hair has gone grey it will not go back to its normal colour on its own. Smoking has also been linked to hair loss and it restricts the blood flow to blood vessels and this may have a detrimental effect on hair follicles.
There you go…you now have yet another reason to quit smoking sooner rather than later…. Don’t wait until it is too late and you rue and regret the day you ever started.
