The Food & Drug Administration did say that there was no concrete evidence

You may have heard some negative reports in the press about the new smoking cessation drug Champix which has been hailed as a wonder drug for many people who have been unable to previously quit their smoking habit. The reports centre around the fact that some people who used Champix suffered from hallucinations and even in extremely rare cases suicidal or aggressive behaviour.

Champix Reviewed By FDA

In America where the Champix drug goes by the name of Chantix the Food & Drug Administration have decided to review the cases that have been reported to them in line with correct procedure. The review is called an “ongoing safety review” and is standard practice for the Food & Drug Administration which continues to monitor drugs well after they have been given full approval for sale and marketing in America.

The Food & Drug Administration did say that there was no concrete evidence that Champix had been involved in these cases of depression and suicidal behaviour nevertheless it was their duty to properly investigate all cases and a report would be drawn up in due course. It is also worth remembering that the withdrawal symptoms associated with giving up smoking can aggravate existing psychiatric problems and therefore it is possible that the Champix drug was not responsible for the unusual behaviour in certain cases.

As with practically all drugs there are side effects and these side effects must be weighed up against the benefits of the drug. The fact that Champix in some users causes drowsiness must be weighed up against the benefits that quitting smoking will do to your health. At Ukmedix News we have heard some people say that they would not use the Champix drug because of these reports and so they carry on puffing away using this excuse as a reason for not quitting smoking. However there is no doubt that smoking is far worse for you that the Champix drug.

Independent reports have confirmed that Champix is the most successful smoking cessation medication on the market today. It is much more effective with most people than nicotine patches.

It is never too soon to give up smoking so take the plunge and do it now!
