Smokers are really being hounded by the government now, as not only will they have to smoke outside but if they drop their cigarette butts on the floor they could be facing a fine of up to £80. The new campaign to stop people smoking in England is also designed to stop them littering the streets. Because so many people will now be smoking outside the amount of litter from cigarettes and matches is expected to rise quite a bit too. When people smoke inside they tend to dispose of their cigarette butts carefully but outside they just end up on the floor. The fines for dropping cigarettes in the road will be instant on the spot fines. It is estimated that to clean up all the cigarette butts all over the UK costs the taxpayer £200 million annually as over 120 tons of cigarette butts, matches and other smoking related rubbish are dropped on the floor everyday.

With just under a month to go before the English smoking ban it is really the time to quit smoking now. At Ukmedix News we have been extolling the virtues of the new smoking cessation drug from Pfizer, Champix. To use Champix effectively you need to take it every day for about two weeks before you start to give up and so possibly you need to start thinking about quitting pretty soon.
People who are borderline smokers who find it difficult not to smoke when they are surrounded by other smokers will welcome the smoking ban in England as it will make it much easier for them to go out and socialise in pubs and restaurants and not feel the urge to have a cigarette. With a lot of ex-smokers in the Ukmedix newsroom who are still tempted by cigarettes now and then, the smoking ban in England is something we are all really looking forward to.
