Originally when the Mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg set out to curb the amount of smoking going on in the city he came against a loss of opposition, however his determination has borne fruit as it now appears that twenty percent of all smokers in NYC have now quit smoking since 2002 when the ban came in. This result is the best one of all American cities.

Many people started to call Michael Bloomberg ‘the Nanny of New York’ and said that he was impinging on civil liberties by not allowing people to smoke in certain places. The tobacco industry, bars and nightclubs as well as cigarette sellers all gave him a hard time and said that his ban was impossible to enforce, but it now appears that the Mayor is winning the battle against smoking and the results are even better than the targets that he set for himself.
A survey done in New York shows that two of the biggest reasons that people fail to quit are binge drinking and emotional distress. At Ukmedix News we know that if you go out and get completely drunk your inhibitions disappear and it makes it far more likely for you to have “just the one”. It is normally this cigarette that you have in a smoky bar at 3:00am in the morning which is the one that puts you on a downward spiral to becoming a full on ‘packet a day’ smoker.
We also know that many people light up at times of extreme stress and it is important that people trying to quit face the reality that this may happen and deal with it by getting some exercise or making sure that they stay well away from any smokers or cigarettes when they know that they might get stressed.
Ukmedix News applauds the effort made by the New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and wishes him success in further campaigns to reduce the amount of smoking in The Big Apple.
