Being Smoke Free For Three Years And Still In Danger

a deep rooted psychological addiction

You would think that if you had not smoked for three whole years you could pretty much not smoke for the rest of your life. If you can manage to be completely smoke free for a very long time despite being in every situation where the temptation to smoke is very great why is it that people start smoking again. At Ukmedix News for example we know of people who have quit smoking for as long as eight or nine years only to fall by the wayside in a weak moment.

What everybody must understand about smoking addiction is that it is not simply just a physical nicotine addiction but it is in fact a deep rooted psychological one. The nicotine in your body soon leaves when you quit smoking and so the physical cravings should be no worse than quitting drinking coffee for example. The psychological cravings for cigarettes however are the ones that you need to deal with if you are going to be successful in your quit smoking attempt.

Research has shown that when people smoke, receptors in the brain are activated which have an impact on your mood and this is why smokers enjoy their cigarettes so much. Many smokers are not really aware of the psychological impact that smoking has on them and just think that they enjoy the taste and smell of the tobacco, but in fact unbeknown to them their brains are sending out powerful feel good messages.

When you quit smoking for a long time your brain forgets about smoking on a daily basis and you are only reminded about smoking when you are put in certain situations. If you have that one puff of a cigarette all the receptors in your brain which deal with memory and pleasure will be awakened and you will have opened that Pandora's box again!

We have always argued at Ukmedix News that once you are an addicted smoker you will be one for the rest of your life.  You should be vigilant about the dangers of smoking at all times even after three, four and even twenty years because if you are not and you do start having the odd puff now and again it will come back to haunt you.

I think when you have stopped smoking you are ALWAYS in danger, one puff and you are off again!
