We recently wrote about the "last attempt" of Geoff Spice to conquer his smoking habit by locking himself up on a deserted Scottish island. It appears from news reports in the Sun newspaper that he's getting on well but suffering in the process.

The 57 year old banker has now been there for over two weeks and he has smashed his own record for the longest period without a cigarette in 44 years. He described his second week on the remote Sgarabhaigh Island as seven days of hell as he spoke about chronic cravings, stomach problems and annoying insects.
Despite having as much food as he wants Mr. Spice has not gained an ounce in body weight and in fact has lost 7lb. He described himself as feeling "the healthiest I've been in years". The other insight that he gave into his smoking cessation attempt was that he has a very compulsive personality and that he would not have been able to quit without locking himself away like this. He said that people who were like him needed to cut themselves off completely to quit.
At Ukmedix News we have often spoken about how the simple act of learning about and speaking to people who have quit can be the motivation to help you quit and also give you very useful tips and ideas about how to deal with your own addiction.
We are all different and we respond to different things in different ways and therefore it is important to know yourself and fully understand what could trigger you to smoke before you attempt to quit. Some people know how to go cold turkey in the middle of a party and never smoke again but others require hypnotherapy, smoking cessation drugs or nicotine replacement therapy.
Knowing what works for you is the best way to stop smoking!
