Amy Winehouse says that she is determined to quit the smoking habit for good

Amy Winehouse, the hard living, singer and celebrity may have to cut her singing career short if she doesn’t wise up to the fact that smoking is doing her a lot of damage.

Amy Winehouse Has Emphysema

Doctors say that medical examinations and lung X-Rays clearly show that Amy has the beginning of emphysema which could inhibit her ability to breathe and therefore sing too. Emphysema is a medical condition which occurs when the alveoli and capillaries in the lungs start to disintegrate due to continuous exposure to cigarette smoke or other unhealthy toxins. It is an irreversible condition and creates a shortness of breath which means that a simple task like going up the stairs makes you out of breath.

Emphysema normally occurs in people who have been smoking all their lives however very heavy smokers and those who have weaker lungs are likely to start to develop the condition when they are younger. In the case of Amy Winehouse her condition is likely to have been aggravated by the use of crack cocaine and other harmful inhaled drugs.

Nevertheless Amy has quit smoking and she is lucky to have caught the emphysema early on before it has done any very serious damage to her lungs. She will be singing at a concert to mark the 90th birthday of Nelson Mandela in Hyde Park on the 27th  June and also the next day at Glastonbury.

Amy Winehouse says that she is determined to quit the smoking habit for good and is using nicotine replacement therapy to help her along. Ukmedix News would also advise that she gets counseling and possibly hypnosis to help her along as she is not only quitting smoking at the moment but also staying clean off all illegal drugs.

Incidentally you may remember an article written by one of the Ukmedix News Team which showed that the heavy metal legend Ozzy Ozbourne claimed that of all the substances that he had to quit (including alcohol and heroin) nicotine was definitely the one which gave him the worst withdrawal symptoms.

Never underestimate the physical and psychological pull of cigarettes and if you do manage to quit you have something to be extremely proud of.
