Alcohol May Be Your Smoking Problem

the last thing you need is smoke in your face when you are drinking

If you are struggling to quit smoking and you find that the social aspect of cigarette smoking is the most difficult thing to conquer you might find that it is actually the alcohol which is your problem rather than the cigarettes themselves!  A new study done in New Zealand shows that smokers are 2.5 times more likely to be heavy drinkers than nonsmokers and this information could be put to good use by legislators trying to lower national smoking rates.

alcohol may be your smoking problem

The study which was done by Professor Nick Wilson at the Otago University looked at almost 1,400 smokers and observed that around one in three of them had unhealthy drinking habits showing that they consumed much more alcohol than nonsmokers. The research which was published by the Medical Journal was organized by the International Tobacco Control Project.

Apart from the fact that binge drinking is extremely unhealthy in itself it could be the reason why you are unable to completely knock your smoking habit. It is no good being smoke free all the time and then being unable to control yourself when you have a few drinks because all you will be doing is reactivating your addiction and having to start all over again the next day when you wake up with a hangover. Incidentally starting a quit smoking attempt when you have a hangover is always a bad idea.

Since smoking and drinking are very much linked it might be an idea for legislators to consider rules and regulations for pubs and bars which make it difficult for you to drink and smoke at the same time. People trying to quit smoking say that is so much easier to enjoy themselves when there are no people smoking near them. If you are a recent quitter the last thing you need is somebody blowing smoke in your face especially when you are drinking.

Think carefully about your social life if you have quit smoking recently and avoid your smoking friends and venues where smoking is allowed. Never underestimate the power of alcohol to skew your normal and rational thinking and make you light up another cigarette.
