Admit You Have A Problem

What you must do as a smoker who wants to quit is admit to yourself that you have a serious addiction. If you have attempted to quit previously before and failed you should do some serious planning before you start quitting again.

Some people have been able to quit for a month or two which shows that they are able to battle the physical nicotine addiction. The nicotine in the bloodstream disappears completely after a couple of days and therefore if you quit for longer than that that only reason you want a cigarette is because of a psychological urge rather than a physical one.
It is important that you realise the psychological hold that cigarettes can have on you and learn to battle the problem from a mental perspective. Some people say that they find it difficult not to smoke when they go to gatherings and have a drink or two but they are able to be cigarette free for the rest of the time. It is important therefore that you break your psychological association between alcohol and cigarettes.
You need to sit down and think carefully about how you are going to deal with not smoking when you are handed a glass of wine. If you ignore this problem the chances are you will fail, so it is essential that you make a plan. Everybody has their own story to tell about how they beat the psychological urge to smoke and sometimes they are extremely simple and easy.
For example one person who wrote to us at Ukmedix News said that he deliberately associated cigarettes with bananas by playing mind games with himself and whenever he felt the urge to smoke he immediately imagined bananas and asked himself whether he really needed to have a banana. It sounds simple and even stupid but for him it worked. Remember cigarettes are playing mind games with you and you have to beat them on this playing field.
That feeling of being in control of your life and your health is far better than any cigarette and quitting will also boost your confidence and energy. The time is NOW so quit messing around and work out how you are going to kick the habit.

I am just pregnant and finding it very difficult to stop smoking, I know I have to, and I found this article very helpful, I liked the bit about thinking a cigarette is a banana and do I really need it? I suppose if I think a cigarette is a carrot (I hate carrots) it will make it easier for me!
