The weight loss drug from Sanofi-Aventis namely Acomplia can have a significant effect on improving blood sugar levels and control in men and women who suffer from Type II Diabetes. The researchers also noted that the Acomplia weight loss drug especially helped those patients who could not properly control their blood sugar with standard insulin therapy.

This is good news for the Acomplia weight loss drug because it explains that it is not only just a drug to control appetite but also has other medical functions. Sanofi Aventis have invested considerable amounts of money into research to show that the drug should not just be classified as a weight loss “lifestyle” medication but should be considered to be a serious medicine to help with all aspects of obesity.
The researchers who were led by Dr. Priscilla Hollander from the Baylor University Medical Centre based in Dallas, Texas looked at over 350 volunteers who participated in the year long study. On average the patients had been using insulin to control their blood sugar for on average about six years and it was clearly seen that the Acomplia drug had positive benefits for these people.
The research which was announced to the American Diabetes Association at their annual conference in San Francisco also came with the proviso that men and women who take the Acomplia drug are also more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety. These are two well known side effects of the Acomplia weight loss drug and people who have a history of depression should inform their doctors. As with practically every medication there are side effects and they need to be weighed up with the positive aspects of it.
This research will be used by Sanofi Aventis to add weight to their argument that the Acomplia drug should be prescribed as a remedy for Type II Diabetes as well as for obesity.
