At Ukmedix News we are committed to give you all of the news, which means even the bad news and that is why we have no problem in reporting that the diet medication Acomplia made by Sanofi Aventis, the French pharmaceutical giant has been refused medical approval by the Food & Drug Administration’s advisory panel in America.

Acomplia was approved for sale in Europe last year and has been on sale in many European countries since then with extremely good success rates in dealing with obesity and metabolic problems associated with diabetes. At Ukmedix News we have known for some time that the Food & Drug Administration in America had some reservations about the Acomplia drug because they said it could cause depression in some people.

In line with standard procedure, what will happen now is that the outside experts on the advisory panel will send their recommendations to the FDA that the Acomplia drug should not be given the green light in the States. Obviously we had a long talk about this in the Ukmedix newsroom and to be honest the decision came to us as a shock as we had been almost certainly sure that the FDA would give the Acomplia drug the go ahead.

At Ukmedix News we have not seen the data that caused the advisory panel to decide not to approve the weight loss drug and therefore we can’t really comment on that. However what we can say is that Acomplia has been extremely well received by the vast majority of obese individuals who use it in the UK and that lots of different medications can cause depression as a side effect.
