Despite the blow that the Acomplia weight loss drug suffered at the hands of the American Food and Drug Administration, Sanofi Aventis the French drug company still reckons that they have a very good chance that the drug will be eventually approved for sale in America.

Speaking in a German newspaper, the head of German operations for the company Sanofi Aventis recently said that they had not “written off” Acomplia in America. Mr. Heinz-Werner Meier said that it would be likely that at some point the Food and Drug Administration in America would agree to the sale of Acomplia provided that there were warnings that the drug could cause some people to get depressed. The warnings would be exactly the same as the ones that have been ordered on to the labelling of Acomplia in Europe a following a review by the EMEA.
America is however the key market for Acomplia as there are so many obese people there who would welcome a new weight loss drug. Analysts estimate that the market for Acomplia worldwide is about half a billion dollars but if the approval was given in America that figure could rise to as much as $5 billion. Acomplia has been selling extremely well in Europe and Sanofi Aventis reckons that its sales will continue to rise over the next couple of years.
Sanofi Aventis have actually withdrawn their application from the Food and Drug Administration in America and are currently in talks with the organisation on the best way to proceed. Ukmedix News is hopeful that the Acomplia weight loss drug will be eventually approved in America and we feel that the chronic problem that America has with the weight of its people means the quicker Acomplia comes on the market the better for the health of the nation.
