New Boss For Sanofi Aventis

Written by Stuart Stevens | Wednesday, 31 January 2007

There is a new boss of the French drug giant Sanofi Aventis. Gérard Le Fur who will heading the company that makes the new weight loss drug Acomplia has big challenges ahead of him and one of them he admitted is improving the communication between the company its shareholders and its customers.Sanofi has come into a lot of criticism because it is not giving out information about why the diet drug Acomplia is stalled at the Food and Drug Administration in the United States and this is beginning to worry investors who are demanding more information. The FDA itself doesn’t release information until after the trials are finished and thus it is only if the drug companies themselves choose to comment on the trials can anyone get to know what is going on.

In the UK Acomplia has a good safety record and the weight loss drug has been fully approved by the EMEA and the relevant UK authorities but it appears that the FDA is asking for more information from Sanofi before it allows the full approval of the drug to the American market. The approval of Acomplia was promised last year but it looks like the American people will not get it until around July or August 2007.

This approval is crucial to the Acomplia weight loss medication as America is the largest weight loss drug market in the world with the most amount of obese people at around 34%.
Acomplia is selling well in the UK and in other EU countries that have approved it and no serious side effects have been reported. The drug has been very expensively tested and as well as suppressing appetite it can also lower cholesterol and improve metabolism. Ukmedix has been providing Acomplia since June 2006 and has had very positive feedback and many satisfied customers.
