Acomplia Could Also Work For Metabolic Disorders

In a new development it appears that Sanofi Aventis the drug company making the weight loss drug Acomplia may be looking at the possibility of getting the relevant authorities in Europe and America to let Acomplia be sold for the remedy of metabolic disorders including the applied for weight loss and stopping smoking categories.
The FDA recently ruled that they would consider the licencing of Acomplia as a weight loss remedy (subjects to certain conditions being met) but not as smoking cessation aid. However in the small print of the application to the FDA it says that Acomplia is for obesity, metabolic disorders and smoking cessation. Sanofi Aventis has yet to make a formal announcement on what the FDA said about the approval for metabolic disorders.
The application for metabolic disorders could be a ruse to have the drug covered by health insurance policies should it be OK'ed by the FDA. At present obesity is generally not covered by such policies, whereas metabolic disorders would be. At present not much is known about whether the relevant authorities favour the approval of Acomplia for the metabolic disorders in the US and in Europe.
