After the FDA in the United States of America refused approval for the weight loss drug Acomplia at Ukmedix News we reported that the European health authorities namely the EMEA would be conducting a review of their clinical data and research concerning this drug just to be doubly certain that there were no serious side effects.

Well the good news is that this review is complete and as a result the European Medicines Agency special Committee for Medicine Products for Human Use or CHMP for short has recommended that the drug should continue to be for sale in Europe. They did however say that the labeling of the weight loss drug Acomplia should now be contraindicated for people who have “major depressive illnesses” and/or “ongoing anti depressive treatment”.
At Ukmedix News we always felt that the Acomplia drug would be fully approved in the United States and it came to us as a bit of a shock when it was refused. Many different drugs cause side effects of a depressive nature and it is important that people who have depressive illnesses should stay away from the Acomplia weight loss drug as well as any other drug that is known to aggravate a depressive condition. Acomplia has been well received in Europe and Sanofi Aventis reports that sales are still extremely good. Acomplia is also said to help diabetics control their blood sugar levels and one report that we came across even claims that it can reduce cholesterol levels too.
If you suffer from depression of any sort it is essential that you tell your doctor about it and he could possibly prescribe you other weight loss medications like Reductil or Xenical. All three of the weight loss medications that are sold at Ukmedix work in different ways and thus it is important for your doctor to know all of your medical conditions so that he or she can prescribe the right drug for you.
