The new weight loss drug Acomplia from Sanofi' Aventis was officially launched last Wednesday in the UK and provided you get a prescription from your doctor or a Ukmedix doctor it is now possible to use this revolutionary new drug. At present the Acomplia drug is only licenced for sale in the European Union following EMEA approval and not in the United States yet.

The weight loss drug though it is formally available to obese people at present is unlikely to be widely available until it gets full approval from the UK independent National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence which could take a couple of years. The UK Primary Care Trusts of the NHS tend not to recommend that GP's and pharmacists prescribe new drugs until the NICE gives more information about what obesity treatments are good value for money and useful. This can delay the availability of new treatments and drugs to alot of people in the UK who don't go to private doctors.

However notwithstanding the bureacratic hurdles the weight loss drug Acomplia is the now available in the UK before any other European Uniojn country and Ukmedix will be selling the drug subject to doctors approval to its patients. Later this year Acomplia is likely to be sold in Denmark, Ireland, Finland Norway and Germany.

Acomplia is an appetite surpressant and needs to be taken once a day before breakfast. It is only allowed to be prescribed to obese people or to overweight people who have weight related risk factors such as diabetes. In clinical tests it was found that Acomplia could improve cholesterol levels, surpress appetite and was very effective in helping people lose weight around their stomachs. The manufacturers of the drug as well as Ukmedix stress however that the Acomplia drug is not a simple fix it pill that will make you shed the pounds but will only work in conjunction with good diet and exercise.
